Bringing Filipino Folklore into the Modern World + Giveaway!

Poster Teaser1

Eskritoryo Pilipinas and Polecats Manila will be producing a fundraising show on November 3, 2013 at the Meralco Theatre entitled Amihan: Indayog at Lahi, a cirque du soleil-like production to be performed by Polecats Manila, with the participation of the University of the Philippines’ Kontragapi and the Lyceum of the Philippines’ LPU Dance Troupe. Hosted by Mr. Bodjie Pascua, affectionately known as Kuya Bodjie, the show brings to life the beliefs of several Filipino ethnic groups that the world is divided into layers, from nothingness to heaven.

Amihan: Indayog at Lahi aims to reintroduce Filipino folklore through modern dance, and will feature pole dance, aerial hoop, and aerial silks.

Half of the proceeds from Amihan will benefit Kwentong Munti, Eskritoryo Pilipinas’ reading and writing program, which introduces Filipino mythology and folklore to children in schools and children’s homes during early education. This workshop encourages their imagination and helps them develop their writing, analysis and communication skills through storytelling.

The show will also be conducting the Sponsored Seats Initiative, where children would be given the opportunity to watch the show through the kindness of individual and corporate sponsorships, together with our partnerships with Teach for the Philippines and Virlanie Foundation.

Eskritoryo Pilipinas is an organization dedicated to promoting learning and environmental sustainability. It believes that a healthy imagination, especially one that can draw references and values from Philippine literature, mythology, and the arts, can only strengthen a child’s desire to achieve more. The organization hopes that we can help mold kids to approach life with a literary frame of mind and consequently teach them to appreciate our cultural heritage further.

Polecats Manila is the first aerial school in the Philippines. Formed in 2009, today it is now considered to be the premier pole dancing school in the country. Located at the heart of Ortigas, their studio boasts of professional grade equipment of the highest standards for safety and quality.
